| A little about Petnap and our Whelping Box and heat pads At Petnap we have been making a range of pet heat pad dog heat pad and cat heat pad in the UK since 1973. We manufacture heated pet beds, pet bed heaters, pet heat pad, heat mats, heater pads, cat heat mats, dog heat mats and heated dog, whelping box, whelping boxes and cat beds. We sell a wide range of whelping boxes and whelping kits. The whelping box is made from double walled corrugated cardboard or PVC plastic. This whelping box also comes with whelping puppy rails and fleece bedding (as an option). Having a disposable whelping box avoids the potential problems of cross contamination as the box can be disposed over after the whelping. We make sure the whole thing is disposable including the puppy rails which are 22mm wooden dowelling cut to size. Whelping box and Whelping boxes are our passion. When deciding on which size whelping box to use the best method is to actually measure the bitch. Measure her from nose to base of tail, add four inches to accomodate for the puppy rails and then select a box that will allow her to lay flat. For example if she measures 29 inches from nose to base of tail then add four inches, which gives you 33 inches and select the next size of box up, which will be 36 inch square. This will then give her enough room to lay flat in the box. Getting a scan is always a good idea before you buy a box. You may find that your bitch is due to have a very large litter, or it may even be a phantom pregnancy, either way it is best to know before you select your Petnap whelping box.
In April 2010 Petnap also introduced a range of plastic re-usable whelping boxes. Using a petnap plastic whelping box allows users to re-use the boxes over and over. This is a consideration if you are thinking about more litters in the future.
The Petnap whelping kit is designed to provide a range of the essential items you will require for the coming whelping. Rather than shop around a variety of suppliers for each item we have brought them all together in one pack. Each kit includes essential items such as: forceps, sterile scissors, bulb aspiraitors, puppy formula, even scales and a torch. In fact approximately 40 items brought together in one kit. this is an ideal addition to your Petnap whelping box or whelping boxes.
Adding a Petnap pet heat pad to your whelping box is also an excellent option to consider when caring for the new born pups. A pet heat pad can provide valuable warmth for the newborn pups in the whelping box and give mum a well earned rest. If you decide against a pet heat pad please make sure the room is kept warm at all times and away from draughts. New born pups cannot control their own body temperature and so rely on the bitch for heat, when she is not there they are dependant on you providing that warmth for them.
We have been making the Petnap metal pet heat pad in the UK since 1973 and currently have three sizes available. In the Autumn of 2009 we introduced an even larger size due to popular demand. If you are looking for whelping box, pet heat pad whelping box or whelping boxes or simply want to ring up for some advice, then we would love to hear from you. These vinyl pads will not be suitable for pets who chew find out more | | STEP 1 Choose the correctly sized whelping box
The best way to be sure of the right size whelping box is to measure the mum-to-be from nose to base of tail. Add 4 inches to this for the puppy rails, and then select a whelping box that will allow her to lay flat along one side. Rails are essentail for the 48" and 40" whelping box as they help to strengthen the whelping box with large and heavy breeds. For products you may require after the birth, or go the the next shop page find out more | | STEP 2 Decide whether you need puppy rails
Puppy rails are always advisable with a whelping box as there exists a risk that newborn pups could be crushed by the bitch. Bitches are likely to be exhausted after giving birth and may be unaware that a pup is in distress. Puppy rails are placed on three sides of the whelping box and give pups a safe area to wriggle to. We recommend rails particularly on the larger whelping box sizes as they help to make the whelping box rigid. For products you may require after the birth, or go the the next shop page find out more | | STEP 3 Consider a fleece lining
pre cut to fit the whelping box, the vet bedding is machine washable and designed to allow fluids to drain through to provide a comfortable, clean hygienic padding for the bitch and her litter of pups. Remember to put in lots of newpaper or absorbent pads under the fleece to absorb fluids. (Absorbent pads are available further down this page: step 5) For products you may require after the birth, or go the the next shop page find out more | |
